Laura Lynn Florio has always enjoyed tutoring. She began helping student athletes with their humanities papers while a grad student at Wake Forest University. She then moved to New York City where she translated recipes for the state-side version of La Cucina Italiana and tutored students in all grades in remedial math and reading through the Princeton Review. After living in Florence, Italy, where she wrote historical pieces for a pastoral archive, she arrived in Pawleys Island. There, she tutored at-risk elementary students, as well as oversaw a Virtual Learner’s Day Program for a local non-profit. At Angwin Academy, she loves working with students in all things humanities, especially to do with England and Italy. Her dog Blueberry is Angwin’s mascot.
Hello, my name is Michelle Harrison. I grew up on a small farm in upstate New York. I graduated from Wells College with a certification in elementary education. I then taught for 25 years. Additionally, I earned a Palmetto Environmental Education certification that qualified me to teach salt marsh and estuary health through the Seeds to Shoreline program for 10 years. I am also a First Lego League coach and judge. My favorite thing about teaching in a small group is identifying the individual needs of each student and providing them with unique opportunities to learn and grow. I am a wife and mom, with two teenage boys. In my spare time, I love to sit by a camp fire, to garden, and to nurture my worm farm. I look forward to working with you.

I attended the University of South Carolina and have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Masters of Arts in Teaching. I have taught English and Public Speaking at Horry Technical College and English at Dent Middle School in Columbia, SC. I have lived in Myrtle Beach for 28 years with my husband Grant. We have two sons, Dylan who recently graduated from University of South Carolina, and Mason who is currently a Sophomore at the University of South Carolina. I served as a Spanish Teacher in the New Jersey Public School System for 35 years. I taught grades K through 12. I have since retired and moved to Myrtle Beach with my husband and I am happily working part time for Angwin Academy.

I grew up in Florence, Italy from age 3 to 9. Although English was my first spoken language, I learned to read and write in Italian while my mom taught me to read English at home. I grew up traveling and studied French all throughout school. My first job ever was tutoring French and Italian on campus at CCU. Everyone always told me I should be a teacher because I was so patient, but for some reason I kept fighting it. I ended up finishing school at Old Dominion University and majored in international business and minored in French. I went on working in business but once I had my daughter it was clear that I had a different idea for my work life balance. After making some life adjustments and moving back to Myrtle Beach, I found Angwin Academy by accident or fate, and it just clicked. I realized I love teaching children one-on-one or in small groups. I love giving them the confidence and courage they need from a young age.
